IMF aiming to secure additional funding in midst of drought impact
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is collaborating with various partners to secure additional financing to support Zambia in light of the drought.
According to IMF Mission Chief for Zambia, Mercedes Vera Martin, the IMF's cooperation with the government will ensure that the impact of the drought can be addressed effectively .
During a courtesy call on Vice President Mutale Nalumango in Lusaka, Martin stated that mitigating the effects of the drought will contribute to a more positive outlook for economic growth.
Nalumango said that the government has had to reallocate resources to address circumstances such as the recent cholera outbreak as well as cases of anthrax.
She added that the country requires approximately K23.8 billion to provide essential services such as food, water, and healthcare, with half of the country being affected by the drought.
