ZESCO begins importing electricity
ZESCO has commenced the importation of electricity into the country to supplement the national power supply following reduced capacity due to the ongoing drought. According to a statement released by the power utility on Wednesday, imported electricity will make up 20 percent of the total power for at least 12 months.
ZESCO spokesperson Matongo Maumbi noted that this imported power may bring challenges. "While ZESCO will strive to maintain existing load-shedding schedules, there is a possibility of unforeseen disruptions due to the imported power source,” said Maumbi. “However, ZESCO will endeavor to mitigate these disruptions as quickly as possible.
“Zesco understands the importance of reliable electricity and sincerely regrets any inconvenience these potential disruptions may cause. The corporation remains committed to providing its customers with stable and reliable electricity.”
