Germany Pledges K3.14 Billion to Zambian Development
The German Government has pledged 3.14 Billion Kwacha to bolster Zambia’s development agenda over the next two years.
The announcement followed the successful conclusion of bilateral discussions on development cooperation in Lusaka on September 17.
The talks were led by Secretary to the Treasury Felix Nkulukusa, German Ambassador Anne Wagner-Mitchell and Frank Hofmann, Head of Division for Southern Africa, Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
The focus was on aligning development cooperation with Zambia’s national priorities as outlined in the 8th National Development Plan.
The pledge includes K758 million previously pledged for drought relief and resilience-building efforts. The financial aid for these projects will mainly be channelled through the World Food Programme (WFP).
Zambia’s Secretary to the Treasury, Mr. Felix Nkulukusa, said, “I am pleased to observe that the committed €108 million will contribute to promoting good governance, water and sanitation, as well as food and nutrition security.”
During the negotiations, Dr Hofmann said, “Germany’s partnership with Zambia is built on trust, collaboration and shared values.”
Mr Nkulukusa said the sector support is commendable, highlighting its direct impact on addressing the country's urgent challenges.
Ambassador Anne Wagner-Mitchell praised the Zambian Government for its efforts to analyse and address structural impediments to inclusive and sustainable development.
