Ming’omba Mine Offers 10 Data Science Scholarships.
The newly opened Ming’omba Mine in Chililabombwe, owned by KoBold Metals, is offering ten scholarships in data science and exploration geography for Zambian students.
KoBold Metals has partnered with Stanford University in the USA, Copperbelt University in Kitwe, and the University of Zambia (UNZA) in Lusaka to develop the new programme.
This latest programme is part of the Mine’s efforts to incorporate artificial intelligence in mineral exploration.
KoBold Metals aims to unite cutting-edge exploration technology and top Zambian talent to find world-class deposits.
Vast deposits of copper have already been found at the Ming’omba site, which KoBold claims is the largest copper discovery in Zambia in more than a century.
When mining starts in the early 2030s, the Ming’omba Mine is expected to deliver high-quality copper and thousands of jobs.
The Minister of Technology and Science, Felix Mutati, recently visited the Mine and was impressed by the levels of investment so far and with the way Ming’omba Mine has embraced Artificial Intelligence in its operations.
Mr Mutati comments, ‘As a Ministry which is preparing the nation for a future which will be full of artificial intelligence technologies, we seek to collaborate with partners like Mingomba Mine to help Zambians fully embrace AI.’
