Specialist Doctors in South Africa successfully conduct surgery on evacuated UNZA Student
Specialist Doctors in South Africa have successfully conducted a surgery on Everette Chongo, a University of Zambia student who was last week evacuated to that country for specialised treatment.
Everette, a second-year student in the school of education injured her spine and broke her legs when she jumped from her October Hostel room during the riots at the University of Zambia which led to the death of Vespers Shimuzhila, a fourth-year student.
Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa Emmanuel Mwamba disclosed the development after visiting the patient today.
“Chongo underwent a four-hour surgery on her lower spine on Saturday and the doctors have stated that the operation was very successful”. Mr. Mwamba has said.
He said the doctors have also stated that she will immediately begin her rehabilitation.
Last week government evacuated the student in the company of her parents to South Africa for specialist treatment.
Health Minister Dr. Chitalu Chilufya was on hand to witness the evacuation of Everett by air ambulance to South Africa for specialist treatment.
