Minister Warns Of High Levels Of Covid-19 Transmission in Workplaces
Health Minister Chitalu Chilufya has warned of the high rate of Covid-19 transmission in workplaces, saying that most offices in the country have now recorded confirmed cases of the virus.
Speaking during Wednesday’s Covid-19 update, Dr Chilufya called on employers to implement workplace wellness programmes to protect their employees from contracting the virus. He also reiterated the president’s directive for non-essential workers to work from home.
The minister’s warning was emphasised by Zambia National Public Health Institute Director Victor Mukonka, who called for the spread of Covid-19 in workplaces to be met with sweeping public health measures.
During the same briefing, Dr Chilufya announced that 237 new cases of Covid-19 had been recorded over the past 24hrs. The total number of cases now stands at 9,981, with 269 deaths.
Two of those deaths were recorded at the Levy Mwanawasa Isolation centre, while a further three were brought in dead at hospitals in Copperbelt Province.
