Second Consignment of COVID-19 Vaccines Arrive
The second consignment of AstraZeneca vaccines have arrived in the country which have been supplied by the COVAX scheme. The delivery contains 228,000 doses of the vaccine.
The vaccines have been supplied by the French Government who are working as part of the COVAX Facility.
The Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Technical Services Dr Kennedy Malama has said that these vaccines will be used for both first and second doses for citizens who would like the vaccine.
After being one of the last African countries to arrange delivery of vaccines through the COVAX facility, the government have so far only vaccinated 0.5% of its population. At the rate which vaccines are going at, Amnesty International predict that it will take 1,075 years to vaccinate the full population.
In order to resolve rising cases, the government must do more and act faster to get the population vaccinated.
