50 Per Cent Of Children Out Of Education
Zambia National Education Coalition (ZANEC) have revealed that over the past year, the number of children out of education has risen to 800,000.
As COIVD-19 has taken its toll on the country, and the government struggle to stay on top of the issues which the pandemic has brought with it, the number of children out of education has risen to astronomical levels.
Boys have been affected the most, with 50.6% currently out of education, whilst 49.4% of girls are also currently out of school.
A study carried out by UNICEF in 2014 revealed that 500,000 of the country’s children were out of education. The pandemic has therefore approximately landed an additional 300,000 children out of school.
Schools initially closed for 21 days on June 18 2021 however their reopening has now been postponed indefinitely as the government battle to stop the spread of COVID-19.
