Medical Supplies Arrive In Luapula With More Districts Set To Receive Provisions Soon
Ninety tones of medical and non-medical supplies have been distributed to 15 Zambian districts. Luapula Province is the first of the fifteen districts to have received the supplies.
The delivery has been in response to recent medical supply shortages felt by hospitals and clinics throughout the country. In total 150 tonnes of medical supplies will be delivered to districts across the country.
Dr Peter Bwalya, Luapula Provence Health Director, has stated that the influx of medical supplies will increase the availability of drugs to 59%.
Further, Dr Bwalya has directed district health officials and senior staff to ensure that the supplies are dispensed fairly between the district. This step will ensure the efficient and accountable use of the supplies to ensure effective healthcare provision in the region.
The delivery has also been hailed by Enock Mwale, the Luapula Medical Hub Manager, stating that the delivery will result in the timely distribution of medicine and other medical supplies to ensure they reach the right facilities.
The distribution of supplies comes three days after Zambia celebrated World Health day and is a reflection of the dedication by the New Dawn government in the fight against communicable and non-communicable diseases.
