Health Staff Recruitment Extended
The government has extended its recruitment exercise for an additional 11,276 healthcare workers until Wednesday 6th April, amidst a huge influx of applicants.
Ministry of Health permanent secretary George Magwende said the exercise was also being extended to recruit 13 optometry technologists. This is on top of the more than 3,260 job listings for nurses and 510 for resident doctors.
The advertisement period had been due to close last Friday, however the Civil Service Commission has extended for Tuesday and Wednesday due to high levels of public demand.
The recruitment drive delivers on a key pledge of the New Dawn government’s election manifesto to deliver quality healthcare for all Zambians. Recruiting is currently taking place across all 116 districts and applicants have been advised to apply for jobs in one district only.
In related news, the recruitment of an additional 30,000 teachers begins today, with advertisements running in the media until Thursday.
Applicants have until the 15th April to register in this initial hiring drive, with the government aiming to complete its recruitment by the end of a second term.
