Football derby ends in fatal road accident

A devastating road traffic accident following a local football derby has claimed three lives and left five others seriously injured on the Ndola-Kitwe Dual Carriage way.

The fatal incident occurred last evening at approximately 19:30 in the Maposa area, just hours after fans had watched the Nkana-Power Dynamos match at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Copperbelt Province Police Commissioner Peacewell Mweemba revealed that the victims were all supporters of Power Dynamos, wearing the team's replica jerseys and presumably returning home to Kitwe when the accident happened.

The deceased have been identified as Joseph Lungu, 27, Osward Katebula, 28, and Wedson Muwowo, 27, all residents of Wusakile Township. The driver, Peter Kombe, 25, and four other passengers are currently receiving treatment at Kitwe Teaching Hospital.
