Government praised for placing health as a priority
Brian Chituwo, the former minister for health under the MMD Administration has praised Hakainde Hichilema’s government for emphasising the importance of investment in the health services across Zambia.
Speaking to ZNBC on 14 July, Chituwo said, “It is a process – improvement of health is a process, and we have seen, with efforts of health, the infantine mortality rate coming down, although we still have a problem with maternal mortality, but as I say it’s a process.”
He pointed to the importance of partnership when addressing an area which is integral to the success of a nation and noted the work of the Rotary Family Health Days.
Minister for Health, Sylvia Masebo thanked the organisation for its efforts at the launch of a family health day in Chongwe District, noting that its work supplement and support the ongoing work of the government to address disease burden in the country.
She said, “We are also appreciative of your support for the health sector through programmes like polio eradication, cancer screening, eye camps, dental camps, mental wellness and provision of wheelchairs to vulnerable people.”
The Chongwe District Health Services Director, Mweene Nseluke reaffirmed the district’s determination to improve health services. He said, “we have a strategic plan as ministry of health, as a district, to look at how we can supplement health efforts. When we have partners like the Rotary coming in, it speaks volumes in contributing towards bringing health as close as possible.”
