UNZA to Establish Solar Testing Facility
The University of Zambia (UNZA) Solar Energy Centre is in the process of establishing a solar testing facility for imported solar equipment, with support and funding from the European Union. This initiative aims to enhance the quality and reliability of solar products available in the Zambian market.
Dr. Steven Mudenda, an Energy Expert at the UNZA Solar Centre, explained the purpose of the facility. “The testing facility will provide a service to the general public, ensuring that imported solar equipment meets the necessary standards,” Dr. Mudenda told ZNBC News.
The testing facility will collaborate closely with the Zambia Bureau of Standards to ensure rigorous testing and certification processes for solar products. This partnership aims to maintain high standards and protect consumers from substandard equipment.
Meanwhile, Matanda Mwewa, President of the Solar Industry Association, advised the public to seek expert guidance when purchasing solar products. “It is crucial for consumers to get expert advice to avoid investing in inferior products that may not perform as expected,” Mwewa stated.
The establishment of this solar testing facility marks a significant step towards promoting sustainable energy solutions in Zambia, ensuring that solar products in the market are both efficient and reliable.
