Music Icon Dandy Krazy Dies in Road Accident

Renowned musician Dandy Krazy, real name Wesley Chibambo, died following a New Year's Eve car collision in Kapiri Mposhi at the age of 47.

The accident, which involved Chibambo's vehicle, a truck, and another car, claimed three lives. Despite emergency surgery at Lusaka's University Teaching Hospital, Chibambo succumbed to his injuries.

President Hakainde Hichilema praised the late musician as an "extraordinary artist". The Preisdent said, “His music and charisma touched lives far and wide, crossing all boundaries and bringing people together.”

Chibambo's daughter Comfort said in a statement, “"Daddy you have answered the Lord's call on Shanice's birthday, your third born. Even in death, we will always love you Papa. I have no time to question God but agree to his will but Lord, your will hurts."

Best known for his political commentary through music, Chibambo's hit song "Donchi Kubeba" (Don't Tell Them) played a crucial role in the Patriotic Front's 2011 electoral victory, ending the Movement for Multiparty Democracy's two-decade rule. The song addressed wealth inequality and limited opportunities in Zambia, earning Chibambo the Grand Commander of the Order of Freedom from then-President Michael Sata.

His other notable works included "Chintelelwe" and collaborations on "Chipuba Chandi" and "Temperature." Politician Sakwiba Sikota compared Chibambo's social commentary to that of Bob Marley and Bob Dylan.

The government has pledged to support funeral expenses for Chibambo and other accident victims.
