President Hichilema Launches School Health Project in Kasama
President Hakainde Hichilema officiated the handover ceremony of the School Health Project at Malama School in Kasama, Northern Province, on Saturday. The event marked the 595th school to join the initiative.
The project is aimed at integrating both education and healthcare facilities under one roof, ensuring that pupils and their surrounding communities have their needs met. So far, the project has trained over 5,000 teachers as the first line of defence in school health, enabling over 1.5 million learners in all 10 provinces to benefit from the initiative.
With access to quality healthcare and education making up two of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, achieving universal health “remains a national priority” President Hichilema noted in a Facebook post following his visit. “These school health facilities and trained health teachers serve as critical entry points for healthcare, playing a vital role in enhancing learners’ well-being, academic performance, and overall development” the President added.
President Hichilema thanked the hard work of the Ministries of Education and Health for the work that they have put in to the initiative, adding that it has been thanks to their collaborative efforts and “dedication to empowering learners and being agents of positive change” that the initiative has been such a great success.
During the President’s visit, he also officiated the local International Women's Day commemoration in Kasama.
