Free Education Brings Pupils with Disabilities Back to School

Munali Girls Secondary School and Special Unit has welcomed 15 disabled students back to the classroom thanks to President Hakainde Hichilema’s free education policy.

Speaking to ZNBC, disabled students who have benefitted from the President’s education-focused initiative said that it was thanks to the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) that they are now back in school after an extended period of leave as a result of being unable to pay previous school fees. Pupils mentioned that extensive time amongst their peers in the classroom has also benefitted their social skills as well as their academic ability.

Frankson Musukwa, of the Zambia Agency For Persons With Disabilities, thanked President Hakainde Hichilema for the positive education-focused work that he has carried out. “Your introduction of the free education policy is transforming the lives of learners with disabilities and it has even contributed to the reduction of poverty” he said.

Nine boys and six girls living with disabilities have re-joined the school in Lusaka since President Hichilema’s introduction of free education, Munali Girls Secondary School and Special Unit Head teacher Rhoda Siapwizi mentioned. The learners are said to be putting their best efforts into their studies.
