EU Provides €150,000 to Strengthen Zambia’s Fight Against Cholera
The Zambian government is taking a proactive, multi-faceted approach to combat cholera through prevention, community engagement, and effective case management. In support of these efforts, the European Union has announced €150,000 in emergency funding to strengthen Zambia’s response to the outbreak.
According to a press statement released on Tuesday, the funding will be directed toward the Zambia Red Cross Society to enhance relief efforts. Key priorities include improving access to clean water, strengthening healthcare services, and promoting better sanitation, hygiene, and public education to curb transmission.
The initiative, set to begin immediately, will run for over five months, concluding at the end of August. It will target the most vulnerable communities in the Copperbelt and Muchinga provinces, areas hit hardest by the outbreak.
This financial support is part of the EU’s broader contribution to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies’ Disaster Response Emergency Fund, reaffirming its commitment to humanitarian aid in Zambia.
With this funding, Zambia aims to strengthen its fight against cholera, protect at-risk communities, and improve long-term public health resilience.
