Zambia’s High-Resolution Aerial Geophysical Survey Nears Major Milestone

The Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development has announced that by 31 December 2025, 70% of the Countrywide High-Resolution Aerial Geophysical Survey (CHRAGS) will be completed. This initiative is a key step toward enhancing geological mapping and unlocking Zambia’s mineral potential.

According to Principal Public Relations Officer Shamwinde Tembo, CHRAGS will provide a clearer picture of the country’s geological landscape, particularly in previously unmapped areas. This data will be instrumental in identifying mineral resources, guiding exploration efforts, and shaping future mining policies.

Currently, the survey is focused on Sub-Block B2 of Zone A, which includes Mongu, Senanga, Sesheke, and parts of Kazungula and Livingstone. As of 2 March 2025, coverage in this area had reached 54.6%, contributing 10.7% to the overall survey progress.

CHRAGS is a significant step in Zambia’s ambition to reach 3 million metric tons of copper production by 2031, a goal set by the government to drive economic growth and attract further investment in the mining sector.

With high expectations for mineral discoveries, the survey’s completion will mark a major leap forward in Zambia’s mining industry, strengthening its position as a key player in global mineral production.
