HH Denies Privatization Charges
The UPND President Hakainde Hichilema has fervently denies claims that he was responsible for privatizing state assets for his benefit. Speaking with journalists he said that it was the MMD Government under the leadership of President Chiluba, Levy Mwanawasa and Rupiah Banda that over the privatization of state assets, such as mining assets.
Journalists and the Zambian Student Union have been calling for a Commission of Inquiry into privatization and in response Amos Chanda pointed the finger at Hichilema. HH reminded press today that he has in fact never been in cabinet and that it was in fact the PF Government who are responsible for the loss of national assets such as Zambian Land and ZAFFICO assets.
The only person who is able to sell national assets is in fact the Minister of Finance and the Attorney General, he has held neither position.
“The one who sells assets ultimately on behalf of the citizens is the Minister of Finance. Was HH a Minister of Finance, ever? No. Who else signs? The Attorney General? Was HH ever an Attorney General? No”
