‘It’s Not The End For Me’, Says Kambwili From Prison

National Democratic Congress (NDC) president Chishimba Kambwili is reportedly staying optimistic in prison, telling visitors that it ‘is not the end’ for his career in politics.

Kambwili was visited by Democratic Party president Harry Kalaba on Monday, who told reporters that the incarcerated leader was in good spirits.

“He’s telling me that ‘you know I’m encouraged by people like Nelson Mandela who was jailed for 27 years’. He was saying even people like ba Sata was here and that it’s not the end for him,” Kalaba told the Mast newspaper.

Kalaba reported that Kambwili was ‘picking up lessons’ from his imprisonment and offered his deepest sympathy to his fellow opposition leader.

“He has to understand that we are together in these things. When he is high, we are together with him [and] when is low, we are still together with him,” he said.

Kambwili was sentenced to twelve months imprisonment last Thursday after providing false information and uttering false documents relating to a business he owns back in 2018.

His supporters, including his wife Carol Kambwili, have dismissed the conviction as an act of political persecution by the PF government.

“He is strong as ever. It’s heartbreaking for me, the family, and the children, because as far as we are concerned he has not done anything wrong. It is just government persecution,” Mrs Kambwili said.

Mrs Kambwili flew into Zambia on Sunday from the United Kingdom and visited her husband alongside Mr Kalaba yesterday.
