Chilufya Threatens Social Gathering Ban
Health Minister Chitalu Chilufya has warned that social gatherings could be suspended if Zambians continue to flout health guidelines around Covid-19.
The announcement comes after a reported surge in cases, with 157 positive tests confirmed on Sunday.
Dr Chilufya has emphasised the need for Zambians to take precautions at social events, dispelling the myth that Covid-19 only affects people of a high social class.
The total number of Covid-19 cases in Zambia currently stands at 9,343, with 260 deaths.
Meanwhile the Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) has announced that its offices have closed for 14 days due to an outbreak of the coronavirus.
CCZ General Secretary Emmanuel Chokoya has said that all staff are to work from home while those who tested positive have been told to self-isolate for 14 days.
Reverend Chikoya also disclosed that he himself had tested positive for Covid-19, though he is currently not experiencing any symptoms.
The reverend urged citizens to follow government health guidelines, including wearing a mask, washing hands regularly, and observing social distancing of at least one metre.
