Grey Zulu Dies At 96
Former UNIP Secretary General and lifelong politician Grey Zulu died in his Lusaka home on Sunday after a long battle with illness.
Cabinet Secretary Simon Miti confirmed that Mr Zulu had passed away in a statement to ZNBC News.
Mr Zulu served in various ministerial positions under President Kenneth Kaunda, including as Minister of Commerce, Minister of Transport and Minister of Defence, as well as serving as Secretary General of the Party - equivalent to the position of vice president.
He is survived by his four sons and four daughters.
President Edgar Lungu said he was shocked to hear of Mr Zulu’s passing and has passed on his condolences to the family.
UPND Leader Hakainde Hichilema also passed on his condolences, saying that Mr Zulu belonged to a “diminishing generation of African statesmen who dedicated their lives to the emancipation of Africa from the shackles of colonialism, and lifting the living standards of their nations’ communities.”
Dr Miti has reminded Zambians that - in light of increasing cases of Covid-19 - attendance to the funeral remains restricted to close family members and senior government officials only.
