Seven Parties To Contest Upcoming By-Elections

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has confirmed that eleven candidates from seven political parties have registered to contest upcoming parliamentary by-elections in Mwansabombwe and Lukashya constituencies on September 17th.

Candidates from the PF, UPND, MMD, NAREP, United Party for Prosperous Zambia (UPPZ), People’s Alliance for Change (PAC) and Leadership Movement have all been duly nominated for the upcoming elections.

The PF has nominated Kabaso Kampapi for Mwansabombwe constituency and George Chisanga in Lukashya. The UPND, meanwhile, is fielding Sunday Maluba and Davies Mulenga respectively.

The two seats fell vacant after the deaths of PF MP Rodgers Mwewa and Independent representative Mwenya Munkonge.

The ECZ also announced that ten of the twelve local government by-elections scheduled in Copperbelt, Lusaka and North-Western provinces will be contested by the PF and UPND parties.

Other challengers for local elections include the Economic Freedom Fighters Zambia in Mushingashi Ward, Lufwanyama.
