Jay Jay Banda Pleads Not Guilty To Unlawful Assembly

PF youth chair for Eastern Province Emanuel Jay Banda has plead not guilt to charges of unlawful assembly at Chipata Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday afternoon.

Mr Banda was granted bail after his lawyers argued that he was unwell and had just been released from Chipata Central hospital.

The PF official is charged with unlawfully organising a procession from the Protea Hotel to Luangwa House in Chipata, upsetting neighbours and causing a disturbance of the peace.

Magistrate Mwala set bail at K20,000 each for Banda and his associates.

Trial is expected to commence on the 24th September.

Mr Banda was admitted to Chipata Central Hospital after falling ill ten days ago. He entered the court in a wheelchair.

He was suspended from his position within the PF by secretary general Davies Mwila while in police custody two weeks ago.

“PF will not condone criminal behaviour from any of its members,” Mr Mwila said in a statement at the time.
