PF Is Plotting To Kill Me - HH

UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema has accused the PF government of plotting to kill him after consistent attempts to hamstring him politically.

“The truth is they want to have access to my physical body so that they can eliminate me. Their plan is to arrest and then kill me. But do I have to die for anyone to be in power?” he said in a statement.

The statement follows accusations from former Finance Minister Edith Nawakwi that Mr Hichilema abused his position as a consultant during the sale of the Musi-o-Tunya Intercontinental Hotel and the Rainbow Lodge and National Heritage Park to enrich himself in the 1990s.

Government spokesperson Dora Siliya has said the government is investigating the matter. HH denies all wrongdoing.

The opposition leader accused the PF government of becoming desperate ahead of next year’s general elections.

“If offering myself to serve the country that I love so much and growing increasingly popular are grave offences for which l must lose my life, so be it. I am not afraid,” he said.

The incident is reminiscent of the accusations of treason brought against Mr Hichilema in 2017, which resulted in the opposition leader spending 100 days in prison on trumped up charges.

These charges were dropped and Mr Hichilema was released following negotiations with the Commonwealth of Nations.
