Mumba Keen To Face PF In Court
MMD leader Nevers Mumba says he would like to take the PF to court over claims that the party rigged the recent parliamentary by-election in Lukashya constituency last week.
Mr Mumba was recently summoned for questioning by police in Lusaka after alleging that the PF had hired a South African IT firm to hack into the Electoral Commission’s voter database in order to sway the by-election. The opposition leader claims that the party intends to use the same service to rig the 2021 General Election.
Asked by a reporter whether he had evidence to support his statement, Mr Mumba said that as a pastor he would never make a baseless accusation:
“First of all they (some PF officials) have mentioned about going to court; I would be very interested to go to court with them and it’s only there that I’m going to reveal the information that I have… Of course, I’m a Pastor [and] I’m not going to make a statement that is founded on nothing.”
The former vice-president rejected assertions that he was merely making these claims for political gain, explaining that “I’m raising them in the interest of the nation, on behalf of all of us that were not there to witness the malpractices”.
He called for an immediate clean-up of the electoral system, before it could affect the results of next year’s elections.
