Chishimba Kambwili Under Investigation Over Tribal Comments
Patriotic Front member Chisimba Kambwili in currently being investigated by the police regarding alleged tribal remark, according to Inspector General Lemmy Kajoba.
Mr. Kajoba revealed on Wednesday that the police have compiled a docket against Kambwili with their investigative findings, which has since been submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
In order to move ahead with the case the police department must seek approval to prosecute from the DPP: they currently await further instructions.
“The case of alleged tribal remarks involving Dr Kambwili: Police opened an inquiry file regarding the alleged tribal remarks which occurred on 30th September 2021, around 16:00hrs, at Kaumbwe school grounds in Petauke district purported to have been issued by Dr. Chishimba Kambwili during the Kaumbwe parliamentary by-election campaigns,” said Kaboja.
Should he be found guilty, this would not be the first time the former PF parliamentary member has stirred controversy with his hateful speech. Kambwili was accused of using abusive language towards Zambian police and soldiers in 2018.
Furthermore, as Open Zambia reported in 2019, he was summoned to Lusaka Central Police Station for making xenophobic and racist remarks towards an Indian national working in Zambia.
This latest spate of hate speech has drawn widespread criticism as people await the verdict of the DPP, including from Bishop Timothy Chisala, General Overseer of All Nations Church International.
The bishop remarked that Kambwili “need serious deliverance” and that “he is acting like a confused fellow.”
