Kambwili Welcomes Police Scrutiny Over Tribalism
Former Patriotic Front member Chisimba Kambwili has said that he is more than ready to be arrested on the grounds that he has perpetuated tribalism, following reports that he is under investigation.
These comments from Mr. Kambwili come in response to a statement by the Inspector General of the Zambia Police, Lemmy Kaboja, last week that the police have opened a line of inquiry into the politician over alleged tribal remarks.
Kambwili added that, as a senior PF official and former party president of the National Democratic Congress, he is used to being arrested on political grounds.
According to the Inspector General, the police have concluded their initial line of investigation into Mr. Kambwili, and have submitted a docket against him to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Due to the nature of the alleged offense, it requires consent from the DPP before prosecution can proceed.
Despite this alarming state of personal affairs, Mr. Kambwili insists he is unfazed by such matters, having had similar experiences in past governments. He also maintains that he did not say the alleged tribal remarks during any campaign, but merely spoke “against voting patterns.”
“This is not the first time am being arrested by political opponents. I have been arrested several times, I think nine times so it’s not new to me. Let him go ahead and arrest me.”
“But Kajoba must know that the position of IG is not permanent, he can be used by UPND today and we shall meet in near future,” Kambwili said.
Mr. Kambwili went on to accuse Lemmy Kaboja of allowing political differences affect his role as IG, apparently because he is a known UPND supporter.
“Kajoba has been all over social media with UPND regalia, and some of us have seen him attending UPND meetings. People accused Kanganja of being PF but he has never wore PF regalia,” he finished.
