Bilateral Talks Held With President Chakwera

President Hakainde Hichilema on Tuesday held bilateral talks with President Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi during his one day State visit.

The talks, President Hichilema said on Facebook, focused on topics including agriculture, education, health, trade and investment opportunities. He added that bilateral ties between the two countries were of great importance, saying “Zambia and Malawi are only divided by artificial borders, but its peoples are one.”

On trade, the two countries agreed to accelerate work to open up the Mwami-Muchinji border post in Eastern Province in a bid to enhance trade between the two southern African countries. To add, both Presidents agreed to fast track the removal of trade bottlenecks within both countries to help speed up delivery times.

The short nature of the visit to Malawi has been praised by many, noting that the effective discussions have ensured that public funds and resources have not been wasted as a result of the trip.
