Auditor General Discusses Government Corruption

The Auditor General, Dick Sichembe, has said that he will work with other law enforcement agencies to reduce the number of individuals who are currently mismanaging public resources.

Speaking to Heads of Department in Chinsali District on Monday, Dr Sichembe advised the officers to manage their public resources with transparency to ensure that they are utilised efficiently.

If Zambia is to develop it is vital that such resources are utilised int the correct manner, to construct better schools, hospitals and roads, Dr Sichembe commented.

In spite of the appointment of an Auditor General by the government in 2016, corruption within the country is still rife, including at government level.

Such corruption includes the ministry of health awarding a pharmaceutical contract to HoneyBee Pharmacy in August 2020, despite the company failing to comply with government safety guidelines. President Lungu was not keen to launch an investigation into possible corruption and it was not until pressure had been applied by independent international organisations that the Health Minister was finally sacked.
