Aspiring Presidential Candidates To File Nominations This Week
The filing of nominations for aspiring candidates for the August 12th elections this year will run from the 17th to 20th May, the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) have announced.
ECZ Chief Electoral Officer Kryticous Nshindano has said that only presidential nominations will run for the above-mentioned four-day period, whilst positions such as parliamentary and mayoral or council chairpersonship will each run for one day only.
Whilst presidential nominations will be done at Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka, the filing of nominations for national assembly and councils will take place in respective districts countrywide.
President Edgar Lungu of the Patriotic Front (PF) has been the first to file his nomination today, with Dr Trevor Mwamba of the United National Independence Party (UNIP) also due to file nomination today.
Leader of the United Party for National Development (UPND) will file his nomination on May 19th, with Nevers Mumba of the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) due to file his nomination on the final day of nominations.
Sixteen other candidates have also paid nomination fees and are due to file their nominations this week as well.
National assembly nominations will occur on the 17th May, mayoral and council chairperson nominations on 18th May and councillors will file their nominations on 19th May.
