KK Admitted To Hospital

First President Kenneth Kaunda is unwell and has been admitted to hospital at the Maina Soko Medical Centre in Lusaka.

According to a statement from his office, KK is asking Zambians and the international community to pray for him, while his medical team do all they can to ensure he recovers.

His Excellency Dr Kaunda, 97, was previously admitted to hospital for several days in 2017 after suffering from “minor complaints”. So far, no specific reason has been given for the first president’s latest hospitalisation.

United Party for National Development leader Hakainde Hichilema has already wished Dr Kaunda a speedy recovery.

Writing on social media, the UPND Alliance President wrote: “Our thoughts are with our founding father, Dr Kenneth Kaunda, who has been taken ill. We wish you a quick recovery Bashikulu and pray that you get better soon.”

At time of writing, Republican President Edgar Lungu has not yet issued a statement. The president himself collapsed on Sunday while attending a ceremony to commemorate Defence Force Day in Lusaka. State House say the president suffered an attack of “sudden dizziness:” but is now back at work and doing well.
