Civil Society, Opposition Call Out PF On Campaigns
Civil society and opposition figures are calling out the PF on continuing to campaign when others have been prevented from doing so.
Earlier this week Transparency International Zambia (TI-Z) criticised PF running mate prof Nkandu Luo on this basis, claiming her actions were a “blatant abuse of public resources.”
Alliance for Community Action (ACA) Executive Director Laura Miti has also raised questions over Prof Luo’s conduct.
“Professor Luo, who wants to be Republican Vice President, sits quietly listening to civil servants engage in open partisan politics. Its OK as long as it is on behalf of the ruling party. As for the civil servants, it had to end in tipempako. The country is broken,” she writes.
Meanwhile, UPND presidential spokesperson Anthony Bwalya has described the PF’s actions as “selfish and lawless” and called on the ECZ to ensure everyone plays by the same rules.
“Mrs. Wina expected in Central Province tomorrow "to inspect government projects." The civil service is intact. Permanent Secretaries and all other heads of government at director level are intact and working. Why is President Lungu and Mrs. Wina going round inspecting markets and toilets when PS's are drinking tea in their offices?,” Bwalya asks.
“Ba ECZ, you are fanning flames of anarchy and confusion. Get this sorted out and have everyone play by the same rules. Nonsensical! On top of this, there is COVID19, and when it strikes, there shall be no get well soon from me - this kind of selfish unthinking is beyond measure,” he concludes.
