Lungu And Lusambo: Billionaires In Six Years
Civil society activist Laura Miti has questioned how the likes of President Lungu and Bowman Lusambo have acquired huge wealth in such a short period of time. According to Miti, the pair were of pretty ordinary means in 2015.
The Alliance for Community Action (ACA) Executive Director says that wealth accumulation during office is something citizens need an explanation on.
“Has anyone noticed how President Lungu and his ministers completely sidestep the issue of how they acquired their astronomical wealth. Wealth we all know they did not have a few short years ago,” Miti writes.
“They refuse to answer the screaming question – how did you become dollar millionaires while the country’s economy was crashing?” Miti continues.
She says that in the absence of an explanation from such figures people will draw their own conclusions and may look at the amount lost to corruption according to recent FIC reports and speculate that this money “found its way to powerholders pockets.”
