Security Features Implemented By ECZ To Try And Protect Votes
In a bid to try and protect votes on August 12, the day of the general and presidential elections, the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) have announced that they have put in place security measures which will supposedly protect all votes cast.
Speaking on the matter, ECZ Chief Electoral Officer Patrick Nshindano explained the security measures in place on the GEN 20 forms, the forms utilised to declare winners and record results.
The measures are supposedly in place to make it difficult for the GEN 20 forms to be reproduced to help prevent the announcement of results ahead of the official announcement. Replication of the forms, however, will not be impossible.
The forms, which are being produced alongside ballot papers in Dubai at Al Ghurair Printing and Publishing, are set to start being distributed on Wednesday 28th July. The full transportation process of ballot papers back to Zambia is to due end by this weekend.
In spite of the work which the ECZ appear to be doing to prevent fraudulent or inaccurate results from being published, one must remember that there are many ways in which to rig an election, most of which are hard to monitor.
