HH Takes Oath Of Office For Presidency

Hakainde Hichilema has taken the oath of office in front of thousands of jubilant supporters at the Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.

During the ceremony, President Hichilema supported red and yellow regalia of his party, the United Party for National Development. Thousands cheered ecstatically as the President of the former opposition stepped out of a white SUV wearing a dark suit, red tie and face mask.

It was the words “I, Hakainde Hichilema, do swear that I will faithfully and diligently perform my duties…in this high office,” which saw the President-Elect become the seventh President of Zambia.

Prior to the ceremony starting, many stayed the night at the stadium to secure a seat at the invite-only event.

On the African continent, Mr Hichilema’s victory is one of only 17 opposition party wins which have occurred since 2015.
