HH Replaces Army And Police Chiefs

Newly elected President Hakainde Hichilema has replaced top military commanders as well as the head of police.

Speaking during an announcement streamed live on Facebook on Sunday, President Hichilema thanked those who had served in the roles before announcing new commanders of the army, air force and national service as well as a new inspector general of police.

The Army Deputy Commander Dennis Alibuzwi has been named as Army Commander, replacing Lieutenant General William Sikazwe who had served in the role since 2018. The appointment of Mr Alibuzwi also saw him promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General.

President Hichilema also named Brigadier General Geoffrey Zyeele as the new Deputy Army Commander and Chief of Staff, elevating him to the rank of Major General.

At the Zambia Air Force (ZAF), Brigadier General Collins Barry has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General and replaced Air Commander Lieutenant General David Muma. The new ZAF Deputy Commander will be Brigadier General Oscar Nyoni who has also been promoted to the rank of Major General.

The Zambia National Service (ZNS) has also had changes made to it by the new President. Hichilema has relieved ZNS Commandant Lieutenant General Nathan Mulenga of his duties who will be replaced by Brigadier General Patrick Solochi, who has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General.

The police will see Remmy Kajoba as the new Inspector General of Police, whilst the new Deputy Inspector General of Police will be Mr. Milner Muyambango. Mrs Doris Chibombe will also be Deputy Inspector General in charge of administration.

Lastly, the President has relieved all Provincial Commissioners of Police of their duties with immediate effect to resolve current issues within the force of the command structure.

To those officers who have been relieved of their duties President Hichilema said “We are grateful for their support when they served the country in these portfolios.”

As a result of several arrests and detainments which President Hichilema has been subject to in the past, he promised to deal with the heavy-handedness of the security forces.
