The director of Young Women in Action (YWA), Harriet Chibuta, has called on the president to appoint qualified young women to his cabinet in order to spearhead development.
Speaking in an interview in Lusaka yesterday, Ms Chibata said she looked forward to HH making good on his promise to create a more inclusive government.
“In his inaugural speech, the President mentioned that the cabinet will be based on qualifications and not tribal, ethnicity or gender factors. We want to see young women with qualifications being considered [to] take up such responsibilities,” she said.
HH is still in the early stages of assembling his cabinet, having appointed economist Situmbeko Musokotwane as finance minister on Friday.
the president was clear about the need to represent all Zambians throughout his campaign. His party’s internal elections in February returned officials from across Zambia’s ten provinces and promoted a number of women to significant positions of power.
Following her inauguration on August 24th, HH’s running mate Mutale Nalumango has become the second female vice president of Zambia.
