Queen Elizabeth II Congratulates HH On Election Win
Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom has sent a message of congratulations and solidarity to newly elected President Hakainde Hichilema, following his inauguration as head of state on August 24th.
The Queen said she wished President Hichilema every success as he leads Zambia on its path towards prosperity; acting as a force for good in the region and the wider world.
Her Majesty added that the UK looks forward to advancing the ties of friendship between the two countries, particularly as part of the Commonwealth of Nations.
“I extend to you my warmest congratulations on your inauguration as President of the Republic of Zambia,” she wrote.
President Xi Jingping of China has also extended his congratulations to HH and praised the close relationship between Zambia and his own country.
“I attach great importance to the development of China-Zambia relations and cherish the traditional friendship between the two countries. I’m ready to work with President Hichilema to deepen cooperation between Zambia and China to benefit the two countries and peoples,” he said.
Other heads of state to congratulate HH this week include the President of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas, Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi, Israeli President Isaac Herzog, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, and King Carl Gustaf of Sweden.
In his message, President Masisi of Botswana thanked President Hichilema for his hospitality at the inauguration ceremony last month and said he was confident that the president’s political career and business knowledge would serve him well in steering Zambia towards economic stability and prosperity.
