ACC Arrests ZAMRA Officials Over The Honeybee Scandal

THE Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested and accused the Director-General and Principal Regulatory Officer of the Zambia Medicine Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) with corrupt acts. 

 Bernice Mwale, 64, of Chudleigh, Lusaka, and Brian Muwanei Kabika, 42, of Meanwood Chamba Valley, have both been charged with Willful Failure to Comply with Applicable Law and Procedure in violation of Section 34 subsection (2) (b) of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 3 of 2012.

 According to ACC spokesperson Queen Chibwe, between the 1st of July 2019 and the 30th of September 2019, Ms Mwale and Mr Kabika, acting jointly and with other unknown individuals, failed to comply with applicable procedure and regulations when processing licence number PL/ 5- 00091/19 in favour of Honeybee Pharmacy. 

 She stated that the two suspects were freed on bail and will be in court soon.

 Meanwhile, the Kasama Magistrate Court has convicted a Ndola businessman to four years imprisonment for corruption.

 Details are that Mr Nkonde in Kasama district, Northern Province Zambia, on a date unknown but between 1st February 2021 and 28th February 2021 did corruptly give K5,000 cash gratification to a Zambia Police Inspector Martha Ngambi as a reward or inducement for her to release three (3) impounded motor vehicles that traffic Police officers had impounded, a matter or transaction concerning the Zambia Police a public body,” Mrs Chibwe said.
