President Hichilema Meets With DRC Delegation

Yesterday morning, a delegation from the Congo DR, that was led by that Country’s Finance Minister Kazadi Kadima, arrived at the State House to continue talks on improving the value chain of copper and cobalt mining in both countries.

In November 2021, His Excellency the President of the Republic of the Congo DR Felix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo invited President Hakainde Hichilema to a round table multi - stakeholder Business Forum, to foster the development of a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and Renewable Energy Value Chain and Market in Africa.

DRC and Zambia hold more than 70% of the World’s cobalt and copper reserves and despite this smart mineral value chain, the two countries only capture 3% of the global battery and Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) value chain.

President Hichilema is therefore glad to report that the DRC-Zambia joint working group on the project to make battery precursors is progressing well and will shortly end debates to allow our two nations to gain and, most importantly, create jobs for our two peoples.
