Government To Inject K198 Million Into Zambian Constituencies
The Treasury has announced that another K198 million of funding will be released to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to be distributed to constituencies under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
The news was broken on Sunday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Mambo Hamaundu, during an interview on the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation.
The Secretary stated, “We have received another K198 million, which is sitting with us awaiting disbursement to constituencies. We make resources available as and when need arises.”
Following the distribution of funds to constituencies, the money will be used to pay for bursaries, projects and empowerment programmes that align with the New Dawn government’s plans to encourage development throughout the country.
The injection of funds comes after the government had previously announced that K805 million from the CDF would be distributed among all of Zambia’s 156 constituencies during the first quarter of 2022.
Both these injections to local government offer vital funding for community-led programmes, enabling more efficient and effective delivery of services at the local level. The funds reflect the government’s commitment to delivering on its manifesto promises to encourage local level empowerment.
