President Hakainde Hichilema Takes Steps To Restore Chiefs’ Integrity

Yesterday, in the next steps to unifying the country, President Hakainde Hichilema addressed traditional leaders outlining government plans to improve welfare and restore Chiefs’ honour.

The statements come after President HH visited the Southern Province of traditional leaders at Katimba Primary School in Monze.

The plans include the countrywide construction of homes for the Chiefs alongside the insurance of modes of transport for those who did not receive any from the previous distribution of vehicles under the former regime.

The President stated, “We will standardise motor vehicles for chiefs across the country, because this will make it possible for traditional leaders to feel that they are all equal and that they perform similar roles in their chiefdoms irrespective of their locality in the country.”

Chief Monze of the Tonga speaking people thanked the President for his attempts to unify the country following his election.

He said, “Chief are more united now under your leadership and all regions in the country are now united and working for the common purpose.”

The President also responded to the Southern Province Chief’s Secretary, Chief Chona’s, request for constructing dams and drinking troughs. The President outlined that he had increased the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and ensured that the matter would be dealt through that.

The statements come after Paramount Chief Chitimukulu of Bemba offered his support to the President and his government. The promises by the President reflect his dedication to unifying the country through community based initiatives such as this.
