Zambian Defence Minister Denies The Establishment Of Any US Military Bases

Ambrose Lufuma, Defence Minister for Zambia, has stated that Zambia has no intention of establishing any military bases through the USA African Command (AFRICOM).

Mr Lufuma outlined that the office being built in Lusaka is for the Security Cooperation at the US Embassy.

The office is will enhance the Zambian defence force by encouraging military relations, expanding areas of cooperation in-force management and modernisation.

Furthermore, Mr Lufuma outlined that the office in question, the AFRICOM base, is currently in Germany and the government has no plans to move it. He further explained that under the UPND Alliance there has not been any agreement to move the office to Zambia.

During a statement last night, the Minister warned against all forms of misinformation on social media and advised all media outlets to refrain from publishing the false statements.

The statement comes after President Hakainde Hichilema encouraged the media to refrain from publishing fake news during his quarterly press conference.
