Local Government Commission And Build New Hospital In Chipangali

The Local government have commissioned and built the Kasenga Mini Hospital in Chipangali within the Eastern Province.

The state-of-the-art hospital cost US$ 5.1 million and represents the government’s commitment to delivering on their manifesto promise to improve healthcare facilities both within Chipangali but also in the wider Zambian area.

Paul Sakala, Chipangali District Commissioner, noted, “The hospital will provide adequate space in wards, quality health care, consultation, adequate diagnostic capacity, isolation and oxygen facilities to the people of Chipangali district.”

Further, the hospital will be utilised to continue the successful vaccination programme ignited by the Ministry of Health.

During the official opening of the mini hospital, the Chipangali Town Council Chairperson, Maxson Nkhoma, outlined The New Dawn government’s continued commitment to the health of the Zambian people.

He further outlined that although the district had made significant progress in reducing and mitigating cases of COVID-19 more progress could still be made to meet the national target of 70% of the population being vaccinated.

Currently, the vaccination rate for the district sits at 36%. He outlined that education about the vaccine in schools, communities and workplaces remains paramount to helping people make informed decisions.

He encouraged government officials, traditional leaders and the church to lead the drive in encouraging people to get vaccinated.

He stated, “The fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic that hit our country was so severely, therefore, it is indeed gratifying to note that this year, we have been spared from the active surgency in the cases.”

The District Commissioner praised the government’s investment saying that the opening of the hospital will help the community to address local health challenges, especially considering the rapid population growth within the area, with the population now standing at nearly 168,000 people.
