Zambia and Angola Sign Six MoUs To Solidify Trade and Investment Ties
Zambia and Angola have signed six Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to boost trade and investment between the two countries.
The first MoU that was signed facilitated the construction of a road to connect the Jimbe border between Zambia’s Ikelengi district in the North-western province and Angola’s town of Luau.
The second MoU committed the two countries to enhance security between both Angola and Zambia as well as the region more broadly.
Meanwhile the third facilitated education cooperation through the integration of programmes between the two countries. Specifically, the policy will consider introducing more English-speaking courses in Angola.
With regard to investment, the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) and Angola’s Investment Agency Private and Export promotion (AIPEX) also signed a commitment to increasing investment between the two countries.
The Angolan President, Joao Lourenco explained that his country wants to import Zambian beef and called for mining cooperation between the two countries.
He said, “If we take that route, then we shall be guaranteed massive job opportunities for our people and increased revenue for our countries.”
Meanwhile, President Hakainde Hichilema explained that he wanted to encourage trade through the creation of a border between the states.
He said, “We should connect ourselves via road, railway, air and water transport if we are to enhance economic activities amongst ourselves.”
