Ndola City Council Grants Youths K3.7 Million In Skills Development Bursaries
Ndola City Council has awarded skills development bursaries worth K3.7 million to 901 local youths as part of the Bwana Mkubwa Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
Presenting the cheque to youth representatives in Twashuka Ward, Bwana Mkubwa MP Warren Mwambazi said the CDF was uplifting people’s lives and he urged the beneficiaries to take their education seriously.
“I wish to remind the recipients of these bursaries that this is an opportunity that should not be wasted. It is an opportunity to change the story of our lives and our communities,” he said.
The grant will in part be used to fund bursaries for 16 pupils to attend boarding schools, at a cost of K16,000. In his speech, Mr Mwambazi thanked the UPND government for investing so heavily in young people’s education.
“I wish once again to thank the government for the free education that has enabled our pupils to learn without paying any fees,” he said.
The MP also paid tribute to the Constituency Development Program, which has been substantially increased under the New Dawn government; up to K28.3 million per constituency, including K5 million specifically for youth empowerment programs.
“These funds are aimed at providing our youths with skills to enable them to grab opportunities to earn an income and be educated. CDF is at work and we can all see it,” Mwambazi said.
Afterwards the Mayor of Ndola, Jones Kalyati, thanked the Bwana Mkubwa CDF committee and urged the bursary recipients to make the most of their opportunities.
“A huge congratulations to you all, students as well as institutions,” he said. “Take this opportunity seriously as a city, we will achieve great things.”
