Hichilema Calls Upon UPND to Remain Independent from Government

During a speech at a fundraising gala dinner at Kitwe’s Garden Court hotel on the 28th May, President Hichilema called on party members of the UPND continue working hard at developing the country.

He reiterated that the party is independent of the government, and raises its own funds to support its operations and policies.

His speech focused on urging the members to avoid any division within the party, and reassuring the people that public funds are protected, and the governing party does not have any access to them.

The UPND National Treasurer, Watson Lumba, echoed that the party runs itself  individually.

In a post on X/Twitter, President Hichilema said, “our UPND party was sustained during 23 years in opposition, without accessing government funds and today we continue in the same vein”.

In a similar post on Facebook, Hon. Mubanga warns the opposition party saying, “Thank you, President Hakainde Hichilema, for restoring order in our country. To the opposition: please don’t reopen our wounds.”
