President Hakainde Hichilema hosts meeting with local leaders to step up fight against corruption
President Hakainde Hichilema held a meeting with council chairpersons and mayors from across the country to emphasises the priority of managing public resources honestly and effectively.
With local leaders at all levels of government coming together, Hichilema underscored the importance of embracing teamwork in the task of enhancing social development.
In a post on X/Twitter, the President pointed to the three main objectives for Zambian development: Deliver development, manage resources, embrace teamwork.
Hichilema pointed to the growth of opportunity Zambia has seen in recent months, “With the debt restructuring process behind us, the rejuvenated mining sector, and the enhanced Constituency Development Fund (CDF), which will be further increased in 2025, we expect to see a significant development in our local council economies.
High on the President’s list for discussion, was the government’s zero tolerance policy on corruption. He made clear the government’s determination to root out corruption from positions of power – “The government will fight past, present and future corruption.”
Addressing the CDF in particular, the President of the Local Government Association of Zambia, Vincent Lilanda said, “The CDF has changed the way development is delivered to people.” This additional praise is added to the positive sign that the government of Namibia is hoping to collaborate with Zambia in order to implement the same law to maximise social development in the country.
