1,600MT of Fertiliser Delivered In Itezhi-Tezhi

According to the National Agricultural Information Services, the government has delivered 1,601 metric tonnes of Urea fertiliser to the Itezhi-Tezhi district in Southern Province.

The fertiliser will be used in the 2024/2025 season under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP).

The FISP's primary aim is to improve the accessibility of agricultural inputs at a reduced cost for small-scale farmers to enhance their productivity.

Itezhi-Tezhi District Agricultural Coordinator Aubrey Chanda says the urea fertiliser will cater for 10,675 farmers.

Mr Chanda told the National Agricultural Information Services (NAIS) that eligible farmers should be prepared to start depositing the 400 kwacha contributions towards a pack under the FISP Programme as the Ministry of Agriculture will soon commence the exercise.

Ministry of Agriculture Permanent Secretary for Technical Services John Mulongoti said: β€œThe Ministry of Agriculture is currently implementing the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) for the 2024/2025 farming season and is working round the clock to ensure that farmers have access to farming inputs before the onset of the rains.”

Itezhi-Tezhi Senior Agricultural Officer John Banda said the district has received over 100 metric tonnes of D-compound supplied by Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia.

Meanwhile, Farmer's Barn Warehouse Manager Lawrence Polo said his company has already stocked 21.4 metric tonnes of Sunflower seed in the district in readiness for the season.
